Social needs is a term that has been used to refer to the idea of needs that individuals may have for social interaction, connection, and a sense of belonging. Depending on viewpoint, contrasted by e.g. the monastic, they may be seen as an important part of human nature, or even essential for our overall well-being and happiness.

Some examples of social needs include:

  1. Companionship: the need for close relationships and social connections with others.
  2. Affiliation: the need to feel a sense of belonging to a particular group or community.
  3. Support: the need for emotional, physical, and practical support from others.
  4. Recognition: the need to feel valued and appreciated by others.
  5. Communication: the need to express oneself and to communicate with others.

Meeting social needs can be important for our physical and mental health, as social connections and relationships can provide emotional support, increase our sense of purpose and meaning, and help us to feel less isolated and alone. In order to meet these needs, it is important to engage in social activities, build and maintain relationships, and actively seek out opportunities for social interaction and connection.
