Black lives matter (BLM) is a decentralized anti-racist movement organized around a simple principle: that police brutality and routine killings of black people must stop.[1][2] It started in 2013 after the killings of many black Americans.
In 2023, slightly over half of Americans supported BLM, higher in Americans of color and lower in white Americans. About 2/3 think the police treat black people less fairly.[3]
