‘Cybernetic’ is a term from science that refers to the domain of communications and automatic control systems, such as in a cybernetic arm which has automatic mechanisms that respond to input (communication) from a user; while ‘cybernetics’ is a term that refers to the study of the aforesaid domain.

Cybernetics is a transdisciplinary approach for exploring regulatory systems—their structures, constraints, and possibilities. Norbert Wiener defined cybernetics in 1948 as "the scientific study of control and communication in the animal and the machine."
