Woke is a term that has been used to mean awakened or aware, and can be said to be a short for those terms; the implication being a highly aware person in some sense.[1] The term is often associated with the sociopolitical struggles of Black people.

"Woke" refers to being able to see discursive systems of oppression that most people, particularly the privileged, are blind to because they just take it for granted as the norm. It is AAVE originally so it refers most to being able to see systems of whiteness & white supremacy.
